WSJ Reveals Qadi – Erdoğan Connection

AKP Watch September 3rd, 2007

WSJ exposes Qadi Erdoğan connectionGlenn Simpson of Wall Street Journal revealed the connection between Qadi and Erdoğan on his article called “Well Connected, A Saudi Mogul Skirts Sanctions”.

Glenn Simpson is a reporter for The Wall Street Journal covering money laundering and other financial crime, including terrorist financing, tax evasion and corporate misconduct. Below the highlights from Simpson’s article:
Erdoğan: I trust him the same way I trust my father

“Yassin Qadi is a well-known multimillionaire, founder of a large supermarket chain here [in Turkey] and a close friend of the Turkish premier. “I trust him the same way I trust my father,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on national television last year.”

According UN and US Treasury: A Major Financier of Islamic Terrorism

“But the Saudi businessman also is a major financier of Islamic terrorism with close business associates who are members of al Qaeda, according to the U.S. Treasury and the United Nations Security Council. At Washington’s request, the Security Council ordered Mr. Qadi’s assets frozen a few weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the U.S.”

“The asset freeze has largely crippled Mr. Qadi’s international business empire. But previously undisclosed records show he has managed to free up millions of dollars of holdings in Turkey, in apparent violation of the Security Council sanctions — and without incurring punishment by Turkish authorities.”

Yassin Qadi is a well-known multimillionaire, founder of a large supermarket chain here and a close friend of the Turkish premier. “I trust him the same way I trust my father,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on national television last year.

“Mr. Qadi’s friendship with the prime minister also plays into the growing debate in Turkey over the role of Islam in a secular society. Turkey’s Parliament for the first time yesterday elected a politician with an Islamist background, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, to the presidency. Immediately after being sworn in, Mr. Gul pledged impartiality, saying, “Secularism — one of the main principles of our republic — is a precondition for social peace.” But the development nonetheless has heightened concern about the direction this pivotal nation, poised between East and West, is taking.”

Erdogan government intervened in Turkish courts

“U.S. diplomats lodged strong objections last year when the Erdogan government intervened in Turkish courts to try to lift the freeze on Mr. Qadi’s Turkish assets, according to U.S. officials. The Turkish government reversed course.”

Erdoğan is far less interested in combating terrorism

“That Erdogan personally vouches for this man…raises the possibility that the prime minister of Turkey is far less interested in combating terrorism than he says,” said former Defense Department aide Michael Rubin, a conservative critic of the Turkish government who has close ties to top officials in the Bush administration.”

Top Prosecutors of the case was recently fired by Erdoğan

“Two reports by Turkey’s financial police allege potential money-laundering and other possible crimes by Mr. Qadi and unnamed associates. But Turkish prosecutors declined to bring criminal cases in both 2004 and 2006, citing a lack of evidence. Mr. Erdogan’s political opponents say the probes were quashed by the Finance Ministry. The top officer on the case was recently fired. According to the government, he abused his authority to investigate top politicians.”

Cuneyt Zapsu, Chief AK Party Advisor to Erdogan and Business Partner of Qadi
AK Party’s Chief Adviser Cuneyt Zapsu supported Al Qaeda linked Islamic Charity

“Mr. Zapsu, who in 2001 helped Mr. Erdogan found the Justice and Development Party, also supported an Islamic charity Mr. Qadi founded that is at the center of the U.S. and Security Council decision to freeze the Saudi businessman’s assets. A Turkish financial-police report seen by The Wall Street Journal found that in the 1990s, Mr. Zapsu and his mother gave $300,000 to Mr. Qadi’s Muwafaq charity, which U.S. officials labeled a front for al Qaeda shortly after 9/11.”

“Central Intelligence Agency reports say Muwafaq, now defunct, specialized in purchasing and smuggling arms for Islamic radicals. The U.S. government’s special commission on the Sept. 11, 2001, attack and law-enforcement agencies have cited Saudi-backed Islamic charities as a primary source of funding for al Qaeda.”

“Mr. Zapsu also has business ties to two Islamic banks funded with Saudi capital — Dallah Al Baraka and Dar Al Mal Al Islam — that were accused of supporting al Qaeda in civil suits filed by families of Sept. 11 victims in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Both defendants adamantly deny the allegations, and the court dismissed claims against Al Baraka.”

Charitable Terrorist

“Some of Mr. Qadi’s dealings in Turkey are recounted in a 2006 book, “Charitable Terrorist,” by Nedim Sener. Mr. Qadi has filed a defamation suit in an Istanbul court against Mr. Sener, who in the Turkish daily Milliyet also wrote of a real-estate deal involving Mr. Qadi that may also violate the Security Council sanctions. The sanctions, legally binding on U.N. member states, ban any large financial transactions or international travel by the roughly 350 individuals designated as terrorists or their sponsors.”

AK Party connected Islamist/Creationist Adnan Oktar (aka Harun Yahya)

AKP Watch is sick and tired to write posts about Adnan Oktar, but he is not tired to seek court orders to ban bloggers in Turkey.  It’s look like Oktar committed to be an internet celebrity, even his fame will surpass famous Mahir of 99’s.

Bad news arrived as Jim Collela wrote on his blog: [CORRECTED] “the CNN Political Ticker Blog and Flickr Blog are also blocked because of the same court order (decision no.: 2007/195) enacted by Adnan Oktar.”

AKPWatch double checked and now it’s confirmed, the CNN Blog is also affected by the recent block of WordPress by AK Party connected Islamist/Creationist cult leader Adnan Oktar (a.k.a Harun Yahya). Oktar, acting like a proxy to AK Party, obtained a court order to block WordPress in Turkey which effected all WordPress powered sites, even the ones not using wordpress.com domain name, such as CNN Political Ticker and Yahoo owned Flickr Blog.

Anti-Islamist AKP Opponent Bestselling Author Ergün Poyraz Still Under Arrest

AKP Watch August 31st, 2007

Ergün Poyraz, investigative journalist and controversial author of famous Anti AK Party booksA prominent Anti-Islamist AKP opponent, investigative journalist and bestselling author of famous controversial Anti-AKP books, Ergün Poyraz still remains detained since his arrest one month ago.

Poyraz widely known by his bestselling books about AK Party, PM Tayyip Erdoğan, President Adbullah Gül and their background supporter islamic sect leader Fethullah Gülen.

Bestselling Author

According to the sales reports provided by  Turkish Publisher Association, Poyraz’s bestselling book, “Children of Moses: Tayyip and Emine” (”Musanin Çocukları: Tayyip and Emine”) following top selling “The Secret” in Turkey for five consecutive months since it’s published in February 2007.

Surpressing Opponents

PM Erdoğan’s propaganda minister Press Director Akif Beki (aka Goebbels of AKP) earlier sought a court order to ban Poyraz’s bestselling book, fortunatelly the court dismissed the request.

Poyraz’s bestselling book, “Children of Moses: Tayyip and Emine” (”Musanin Çocukları: Tayyip and Emine”)As Erdoğan’s initial plan to surpress Poyraz failed, most likely, Fethullah Gülen’s organisation stepped in to help by utilising their followers penetrated in Police Department to create some phonny evidence to secure Poyraz’s arrest.

The EU is silent

It’s very interesting to see that the Poyraz arrest went unnoticed by European Union. The EU was very sensitive when it comes to Turkey’s legendary article 301 prosecutions involving famous Turkish writers such as Orhan Pamuk and Elif Safak last year. Poyraz case will be a hallmark for EU’s inconsistency and of hypocrisis towards AK Party opponents. Besides the arrest of Turkey’s arguably most important opponent writer did not mentioned at all in Western Media.

AK Party’s Nazi-Inspired Crusade against Free Speech

AK Party’s full blown Nazi-Inspired crusade against free speech is being carried out without pause: Earlier this month, former MP Emin Şirin arrested upon an unsigned letter sent by an unknow informer claiming his connections with infamous Ümraniye Mob. Under EU supported Islamic AK Party regime, even attending a chrismas mass might cause your arrest. Besides Şirin, AKP opponent Journalist Hayrullah Mahmut also arrested and released next day.

AKP Watch August 28th, 2007

Islamist Abdullah Gul and his headscarfed wife Hayrünisa

A devout Muslim with a background in political Islam won the Turkish presidency on Tuesday, in a major triumph for the Islamic-rooted government after months of confrontation with the secular establishment.

Turkey: Back to the Past

“A person who has defied the (secular) republic, who has said he finds it to be wrong, is about to move to the top of the state. This is a contradiction,” said Deniz Baykal, leader of the secular opposition. His party boycotted the vote on Tuesday and has said it would not take part in some state occasions, including presidential ceremonies.

Islamist Takeover Completed

Now Islamofascist AK Party (aka AKP) has completed the takeover of Turkey’s top posts, allowing it to move ahead with an Islamisation programme. AK Party already working on a more islamic constitution proposal which removes all references to founding principles of Turkish Republic set by Atatürk. On the hand, a new draft of education reform appeared in newspapers which removes headscarfe ban and Islamise curriculum in the schools.

Meanwhile Army forces issued a warning in eve of Gül’s presidency: “Our nation has been watching the behavior of those separatists who can’t embrace Turkey’s unitary nature, and centers of evil that systematically try to corrode the secular nature of the Turkish republic,” General Yasar Buyukanit, chief of the military, said in a statement posted to the military’s Web site Monday.

Turkey’s First Islamofascist Führer

Recently, Bekir Coskun, a prominent secular-minded columnist, wrote that he would not feel comfortable calling Mr. Gul “my president.” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would not tolerate such criticism. “Some say that [Mr. Gul] cannot be their president,” he said. “If they can say such things, first, they need to have their Turkish citizenship revoked. They can go wherever they want, and elect whomever they want.” Soon, Mr. Coskun received death threats.

Bassam Tibi: [AKP] A Covert Totalitarian Ideology

AKP Watch August 27th, 2007

Bassam Tibi, an influential Syrian-German scholar of Islam and modernityBassam Tibi, an influential Syrian-German scholar of Islam and modernity who coined Euro-Islam term, published second edition of his controversal book “Mit dem Kopftuch nach Europa? Die Türkei auf dem Weg in die Europäische Union” (”With the headscarf to Europe? Turkey on the way into the European Union”).

Tibi argues that the AKP is not to be trusted and that its strategy of democratization and Europeanization is only a subterfuge. AKP’s project of joining the European Union, are only diversionary tactical moves by “pseudo-democrat” Islamists to reach their real strategic goal of imposing an Islamist sharia state. The adaptation of Turkey’s constitutional and legal system to European standards, would serve the instrumental purpose of dismantling the secularist elements as guardians of the Kemalist order, which is the only thing that stands in the way of their conquest of absolute state power.

The hidden agenda which the Islamists adopted after the experience of the 1997 military coup, parallels with the Fascist democratic road to power in the 1930s, the communist strategies of the 1940s, or the Algerian FIS in the 1990s.

Mit dem Kopftuch nach Europa? Die Türkei auf dem Weg in die Europäische Union

Tibi told to daily newspaper Cumhuriyet : “Today Turkey defined by political Islam, but only a secular Turkey belongs to Europe, not headscarfed Turkey.”

Tibi also mentioned that The importance of Kemalism and Secularism for Turkey is underestimated by Europe and European policies toward Turkey paved the way for Political Islam. Tibi said: “The headscarf is not a simple clothe, it’s a sharria law and Turkey is governed by a party which uses headscarf as a political symbol”

Tibi concludes that the AK Party’s “headscarf Islam” is not compatible with  universal values of European enlightment.
