Anti-Islamist Columnist Emin Colasan Fired from Hurriyet

Emin ColasanThe prominent, outspoken and anti-Islamist columnist Emin Colasan was dismissed from his position in the largest mainstream Turkish daily Hurriyet. Colasan exposed in his column yesterday, an Islamist publication and its jihadist propaganda. Colasan is known to be a fierce critique of the AKP government and its policies and does not have many fans among the Islamists.

It is reported that Colasan told Kanalturk TV of his dismissal, which broke the news in the channel’s late night programs describing it as “an earthquake in the Turkish press”.

It is reported that another Anti-Islamist Hurriyet columnist Bekir Coskun is in the row to be fired from his position, but his column appeared in today’s Hurriyet.

The Gazeteport news site claimed Çölaşan was sacked by the personal decision of Aydın Doğan, the owner of the Doğan Group, of which Hürriyet is a part. Lately Islamofacist AK Party were pressuring Hurriyet’s publisher Doğan Group to dismiss Colasan to as a part of big campaing to surpress opposition voices.

Yesterday it has also been rumoured that AK Party’s propaganda director Akif Beki (aka Goebbels of AKP) asked Dogan Media Group to replace mainstream newspaper Milliyet’s chief editor Sedat Ergin because of his columns critising Islamist Tayyip Erdogan.
